Stuff that is not related to knitting in any way
There has been basically zero knitting going on around here at the moment (my arm and shoulder are feeling a bit tired, so I figure a couple of days rest is in order). Instead, I decided to channel my creativity into other pursuits.
That's why, for the first time ever, I carved a halloween pumpkin.
I didn't do a particularly good job, but he is kinda cute, isn't he? Especially when wearing a fetching hat.
He doesn't look nearly as good when the lights go out, though.
This is because the flesh of the pumpkin was so damn thick that I was only able to cut the nose and parts of the mouth through to the middle. Also, I was working with fairly primitive tools- my ancient paring knife and a dpn I sacrificed to use for the fiddly bits.
Mourn not for this dpn. It was a crap dpn anyway, and I've been using it as a cake tester for the past 3 months.
My only quandary is what to name him. Got a suggestion? Let me know in the comments.
The other thing that has kept me sane during this period of knitting non-activity has been the discovery of this guy. Now, I know nothing- nothing- about gaming (the most I do is to play a quick game of chuzzle while waiting for something to load), yet I am completely unable to stop watching his game reviews. (He's also an Australian, for that touch of hometown pride).
This is the video that got me hooked (warning: some swearing)-
And this is the one that had me weeping tears of laughter by the end-

Your pumpkin is adorable! Is that an October silly hat it's wearing?
Thank you for those links - they were great!
Happy Halloween.
I LOVE your pumpkin - excellent carving.
I think the pumpkin is sooo cute! It is adorable, truly! For whatever reason, the only name that strikes me is "Puck." Don't know why, :/
Who needs the lights off anyway!!! I refuse to carve as I am 100% likely to cut of a bodily part- I have already stabbed my leg lately!!!
He does look good in the hat!!
